The use of correct lighting indeed is crucial in any type of space, whether it is natural or artificial, excessive or lack of luminosity will produce a different disposition in atmosphere and character.
In Lecture 7, the thesis has put emphasis on the significance in the way shadows shape and form its surroundings. Special consideration has been taken into account in this matter, because I believe the perceptions in mood are of substantial value within Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Keith Campbell’s labs while trying to illustrate their ideas.
There is an apparent contrast between the two labs that I have designed, and is demonstrated through the exploitation of strategically placed lighting and shadows. The shadows generated in Cousteau lab is much more elaborate to create a sense of mystery and unknown journey left to the inhabitant’s imagination compared to the carefully chosen use of lighting in Campbell’s lab which is more warm and inviting, drawing ones attention towards itself.
